In the Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities Stream draw held on September 4, a total of 204 Express Entry candidates were invited to apply for provincial nomination. The draw targeted Express Entry candidates who had selected French as their first official language with a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score of 8 or higher in French in all the four abilities (reading, writing, listening and speaking). Further, all the selected candidates had a CLB score of at least 6 or higher in English in all the four language abilities and either a bachelor’s degree or a completed program of three years or more acquired from a university, college, trade or technical school. There was no minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score requirement for the latest draw.
Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities Stream
The Labour Market Priorities Stream under the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) was launched in 2018 with an aim to select candidates, who meet the labour market demands of the province, from the Express Entry pool.
The general requirements for candidates under this category include:
- Minimum work experience required for the Express Entry stream for which they have qualified.
- Sufficient settlement funds to establish themselves in Nova Scotia
- Legal status in the country where they currently reside
- Meet all the eligibility criteria that are in place at the time of issuing the Letter of Interest
In the earlier Labour Market Priorities Stream draws, the province has invited early childhood education workers, financial auditors and accountants, and French-speaking Express Entry candidates. The September 4 draw is the fifth draw in the history of the Labour Market Priorities Stream as well as the second draw to exclusively target French-speaking candidates. In 2019 alone, Nova Scotia has invited 1124 candidates to apply for provincial nomination.
The candidates who receive provincial nomination from Nova Scotia would obtain 600 additional CRS score points that would guarantee them an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the subsequent Express Entry draw. The candidates who received invitation in the latest draw can submit the complete application for provincial nomination within 30 days.
