The country’s unemployment rate during the month remained at 5.7 per cent. Quebec added the highest number of jobs in August, and the unemployment rate of the province dropped to 4.7 per cent. While Manitoba added 5200 jobs in August with an unemployment rate of 5.6 per cent, Saskatchewan witnessed an increase in the number of jobs by 2800 and the unemployment rate dropping to 5.1 per cent. New Brunswick also added 2300 jobs in August.
The industries which recorded the highest increase in employment in Canada in the month of August were finance, insurance, real estate, rental and leasing, a total increase by 22000. Industry sector-wise, Ontario and Quebec witnessed the biggest increase in jobs. The educational services sector of Quebec added 21000 jobs in August. At the same time, the professional, scientific and technical services that witnessed an increase in jobs by 17000, mainly concentrated in British Columbia.
