More spouses to be eligible to work under Atlantic Immigration Pilot

Canada PR applications

With the changes that will be introduced to the Atlantic Immigration Pilot on June 1, more spouses will be eligible for Canada work permits. For the first time ever, spouses of candidates, who are in Canada on work permits through the Atlantic Intermediate Skilled Program, will be eligible for work permits. Earlier, only the spouses of Atlantic High Skilled Program candidates such as managers, medical doctors or architects, were eligible for a Canada work permit. According to a statement issued by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), this change supports the Atlantic Immigration Pilot’s goal to ensure that newcomers who have come here, stay here.

Under the Pilot program, candidates can work in Canada under a work permit while their PR applications are being processed.
The latest changes are a continuation of the changes introduced to the Pilot program in March 2019. The changes are being introduced with an aim to make the Pilot program more suited to the needs of candidates and employers in the Atlantic provinces of Canada.
