First Australia Skill Select round of 2020 raises hope for immigration aspirants

Australia Skill Select round

In the first Skill Select round of 2020 held in January, Australia’s Department of Home Affairs issued a total of 1300 skilled visa invitations. Australia immigration experts observe this to be a great start and a positive sign for those who are waiting for an Australian visa. They expect the Department to issue almost the same number of invites every month this program year.
The target set by Australia for the current program year is 16652. Of these, around 4000 invites will go to New Zealand citizens and 12,652 seats remain. The Department has already issued 5000 invites and around 30 per cent invitees have secondary applicants.

Of the total 1300 invites issued in January 2020, around 1000 went to 189 and 300 invites to 491 family sponsored streams. Among the Skilled-Independent (189) visa applicants who received invitations, 646 had a score of 90 points, 285 applicants had 95 points and around 70 applicants had more than 100 points. According to immigration experts, if this trend continues, points cut off may come down by almost five points, especially with non-pro-rata occupations.
The number of invitations is witnessing an increase after a slow down for almost two months and it has given hope to many immigration aspirants. Also the latest invitation round had a high number of 491 family-sponsored invitees.

IT occupations dominate first round

The highest number of invites in the January 2020 draw was issued to Software and Application Programmers, who received 298 invitations across 189 and 491 visa programs. The other IT occupations that received the highest number of invites are Database and Systems Administrators and ICT Security Specialists with 121 invitations and ICT Business and Systems Analysts with 93 invitations.
Besides IT professionals, accountants and Civil Engineering professionals have also received a high number of invites.
