Government to promote migration to regional areas of Australia

Regional Migration in Australia

Julian Leeser MP, a Liberal MP of Australia, has commented that the country will have to focus on redistributing the migrant population of Australia in order to maintain the quality of life. To make this a reality, the immigration policies will be devised in the future with more focus on migration to regional areas of Australia. The Australia government is also planning to encourage migrants to apply for regional visas.
Migration to regional areas of Australia is a great option as these areas offer a high quality of life. Immigrants enjoy countless career opportunities in these areas. The cost of living is also much lower. Besides, the process for migration to regional areas of Australia is much easier compared to the metropolitan areas of the country.
According to a report that appeared in The Guardian, the Australian population is expected to increase by 25% per cent to 31.4 million in the next 15 years. Another report by Infrastructure Australia estimates that it will cost $40 billion in annual infrastructure to cope with future population growth of the country. The population in major Australian cities such as Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane is also set to increase. It is in this context, the government is planning to focus on migration to the regional areas of Australia.
David Coleman, the Immigration Minister of Australia, has also revealed the government’s plan to focus on migration to regional areas of Australia. Speaking at the Sydney Institute recently, he said immigration is absolutely fundamental to Australia’s success as a nation and it has to be approached with clear eyes. The minister further said he would be focusing on international students and skilled migrants while encouraging people moving from overseas to live and work in regional areas of Australia.
The Immigration Department of Australia has informed that immigration intake will not decrease for 2019 and will be retained at 160,000 per year.
