Yes, you can work in Canada with your present education qualification. Fortunately, you need not pursue any more psychology courses in Canada to qualify!

Q2. I’ve done my post-graduation diploma in Management with a specialization in HR and Marketing. I’m interested in pursuing psychology as a career option. What could be my best options as my bachelor’s degree is not in psychology?

Unfortunately, cross major is not possible in Canada. Instead, you could add value to your qualification by choosing courses related to your specialization. In HR and Marketing itself. It’s way more, a better decision to make.

Presently, I am working as an undergraduate Associate Allied science (major in Psychology) in Houston Texas. Now I want to move to Canada and I am wondering if there will be a problem getting a visa seeing that my work experience and education degree are not consistent.

Glad news is that you can still qualify for a Canada PR visa. You can choose any 1-year program like occupational therapy, behaviour science, addictions behaviour or likewise in Canada. After completing the course, you may qualify for Canada Experience Class federal program to apply for a Canada visa.

Q4. I have done my BHMS (Bachelor of Homeopathy Medicine & Surgery) from India. Is it possible to opt for a master’s in psychology or in forensic medicine in Canada?

BHMS is departed from psychology and forensic by the nature of the works carried out in the respective fields. It might be considered as a cross major which is not encouraged by the Canadian immigration system.

Q5. I have completed a 3-year bachelor’s program in psychology from India. Am I eligible to pursue a master’s degree in psychology in Canada?

Yes, if the evaluation complies with federal norms, then there are possibilities. Shivani Nirmal says:

I am currently residing in India and wish to pursue PhD in Psychology in Canada. I have done BE in petrochemical engineering, have 4 years of work experience, and also have MA in Clinical Psychology from IGNOU, India

      • Venkat Karky
        Shivani Nirmal says:

Thanks. I read in your blog that Canada doesn’t approve cross majors. I want to know if I fall in that category. Many consultants have advised me that my MA will not be accepted in Canadian universities because it is from IGNOU. After communication with some UBC and UoT in Canada I found that any degree whether offline or online is accepted if University is accredited by NAAC. IGNOU is accredited by NAAC and my MA involved internship and dissertation as well. Please share your opinion.

        • Venkat Karky

          Dear Shivani Nirmal,
A degree obtained at IGNOU has been recognized and accepted internationally. However, every university has a different eligibility requirement. So it is best if the student check with individual universities before he/she apply for them. Also, some universities may accept open university students for certain courses, but not others.
Students can send documents to World Education Services (WES) and get an ECA to be sure if you will get an equivalency. If WES approves it, usually that should not be a problem and also the degree should be approved by the UGC & AIU.
          Hope it helped. Thank you!
