Visa Application Centers in India resume biometric appointments

Visa application center

The High Commission of Canada in India has informed that the Visa Application Centers (VACs) in Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Bengaluru are open for biometric appointments. However, the service will be limited and priority will be given to Family Class applicants and Study Permit principal applicants. Starting from December 2, candidates of the same categories may submit their biometrics details at the Visa Application Centres in Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and Pune.
The candidates must note that VACs do not entertain walk-in clients and prior appointments have to be made before coming to VACs. Those candidates who have submitted their applications under the priority categories will receive a biometric instruction letter from the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada(IRCC). They need to carry this letter with them when they come for biometric appointments at the VACs.

Those candidates, who have already received a unique Biometric Instructions Letter (BIL) from the IRCC, will further receive an email with additional instructions on how to appear for biometric appointments.
For categories other than family class and study permit, biometric enrolment will not be accepted until further notice. The VACs will also not accept paper applications as for the time being.

Biometric appointments: Beware of fraud

Further, High Commission has warned the immigration candidates regarding frauds. The candidates must know that biometric appointments can be confirmed only through VAC Contact Centers. Only those with a unique Biometric Instruction Letter(BIL), which is directly issued by the IRCC, will be able to request for an appointment.
Those who have received a biometric instruction letter must book an appointment as soon as the VAC, which is closest to them, resumes operations. The biometric details of those who are applying for temporary residence will be valid for 10 years and it can be used in the future for another visitor visa, study permit or work permit.
Reopening of the VACs indicate that the Canada immigration system is returning to normalcy, though in a phased manner. Canada is planning to admit more than 400, 000 in each of the coming three years. So if you are thinking about moving to Canada in the future, this is the right time to start the process.
