In the past few months, Canada has been alternately inviting Canadian Experience Class and Provincial Nominee Program candidates in the Express Entry draws. In April 2021, Canada held two Express Entry draws that specifically targeted provincial nominees, on April 14 and April 28. A total of 647 candidates received invitations in these draws.

April was also a busy month in terms of Provincial Nominee Program draws and various provinces held draws inviting candidates to apply for nomination.

Ontario held a Provincial Nominee Program draw on April 13 and invited 528 Express Entry candidates with tech experience. In April, the province also launched a new Expression of Interest system for two of its provincial nominee programs.

Alberta held two PNP draws in April and invited a total of 400 candidates. The province of Saskatchewan also held two invitation rounds through its Express Entry and Occupations In-Demand sub-categories and issued a total of 548 invitations.

Manitoba held three draws in April and issued a total of 1009 Letters of Advice to Apply through its three PNP streams, which are Skilled Workers in Manitoba, International Education Stream and Skilled Workers Overseas. Among the invited, at least 422 were Express Entry candidates.

British Columbia conducts draws every week under the Express Entry British Columbia, Skills Immigration, Entrepreneur streams. Tech Pilot draws are also held every month. In April, 984 candidates received invitations to apply for provincial nomination.

Prince Edward Island typically holds one pre-scheduled draw every month. The province held a draw on April 15 and invited 156 candidates of Express Entry and Labour Impact categories.

The PNP application process

The application process is different for different Provincial Nominee Programs. Generally, you submit an application directly to the province either through their respective online portals or a paper-based application process. Most of the provinces also have Expression of Interest systems which assess the candidates on the basis of various eligibility factors and award scores. Those with the highest score will receive provincial nomination.

Almost all Provincial Nominee Programs have at least one stream or category aligned to the federal Express Entry. The Express Entry candidates who are nominated through these streams will have 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System score points added to their total score and that would guarantee them an invitation to apply for permanent residence in the Express Entry draws that are conducted regularly.
