Express Entry 174

In the Express Entry draw held on January 21, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited 4626 candidates belonging to the Canadian Experience Class(CEC) to apply for permanent residence in Canada. The draw closely follows the Provincial Nominee Program(PNP)-specific Express Entry draw, which was held just a day before. The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score cut-off requirement in the latest draw was 454. The CRS cut-off score is seven points lower compared to the previous CEC-specific draw held on January 7, when the score was 461.

As per the Immigration Levels Plan of Canada for 2021-2023, the country will be welcoming close to 110000 Express Entry immigrants per year. Canada came close to this number when it issued a total of 107350 invitations through Express Entry last year. This year too, the Canada government is planning to welcome even more number of skilled immigrants to the country in the hope that the new immigrants would contribute towards the efforts to recover the economic growth, which is now affected by the impact of COVID-19.

Applying for Canada immigration under Express Entry

Applying for immigration to Canada under Express Entry mainly involves two steps. In the first step, the candidate has to qualify under Federal Skilled Worker Program(FSWP) or Federal Skilled Trades Program(FSTP) or Canadian Experience Class, the three federal economic immigration programs managed under the Express Entry. If found eligible, they will enter the Express Entry pool. Based on various eligibility factors, the IRCC will award a Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS) score. Candidates with the highest score will receive an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence in Canada in the Express Entry draws that are conducted once in every two weeks. The candidates who have received a provincial nomination will have 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS) score points added to their total CRS score. It guarantees them an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence in the subsequent Express Entry draw.
This is the forth Express Entry draw of 2021. However, the IRCC is yet to hold an all-program Express Entry draw this year. It is expected that all-program Express Entry draws will be conducted in the coming months, when FSWP and FSTP candidates will be considered for invitation.
