COVID-19 increases interest for Canada immigration, finds WES survey

Canada Immigration

The COVID-19 has increased in the interest for Canada immigration among prospective immigrants across the world, a survey conducted by the World Education Services (WES) has found. In the survey that took place in June, almost 45 percent of the respondents said their interest for immigrating to Canada increased as a result of COVID-19.
The survey also found that only fewer immigration aspirants thought about delaying immigration to Canada in the wake of the pandemic, only 32 percent. But in a similar survey conducted in April, 35 percent of the respondents had said that they thought about postponing their immigration plans.

Why is there an increase in interest for Canada immigration?

The most important reason for the increased interest in Canada immigration is the better handling of the COVID-19 crisis by Canada. Most of the prospective immigrants who took part in the survey think that Canada handled the crisis more effectively than their respective home country.
Though Canada too had been affected by the impact of the pandemic, the country as well as its economy recovered from the impact faster owing to various measures initiated by the Canada government. Though the immigration aspirants are concerned about the economic impact, they think that the impact of the pandemic on Canadian economy is less compared to their home country.
In the survey, 58 per cent of the participants responded that they expected the impact on economic conditions in Canada to be negative. At the same time, 80 percent expected negative conditions in their home country. Likewise, 57 percent thought the pandemic will have an impact on jobs in their occupation or sector in their home country. While only 43 per cent thought COVID-19 will make a negative impact on their prospective jobs in Canada. In short, most of the participants think the impact of the pandemic on Canada will be less compared to their home country.

The WES survey report observes, “Canada’s continued attractiveness to those looking to settle there is good news for the country. Newcomers will play a critical role in the nation’s recovery.”
World Education Services is an organization that provides educational credential assessments required for economic-class immigration to Canada. As they interact with thousands of Canada immigration aspirants, the survey has all the more relevance in terms of gauging the motivations and intentions of the prospective immigrants.
