150 candidates invited in first Alberta Express Entry draw 2020

Alberta Express Entry draw 2020

In the first Alberta Express Entry draw 2020 held on January 9, the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program issued 150 Notifications of Interest (NoIs) to apply for provincial nomination. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking Score (CRS) of candidates invited through the Alberta Express Entry stream was 350.

How Alberta Express Entry works

Through the Alberta Express Entry Stream, the province selects eligible candidates from the federal Express Entry pool and nominates them for Permanent Residence in Canada. The federal Express Entry system manages three federal economic immigration programs, which are the Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class and Canadian Experience Class. The candidates who are invited through an Alberta Express Entry draw and awarded provincial nomination will have 600 additional points added to their total CRS score. It guarantees them an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence in Canada in the subsequent Express Entry draw.

Alberta Express Entry CRS score

The minimum CRS score required for the candidate to be selected in the latest Alberta Express Entry draw was 350, way too low compared to the CRS cut-off score for the recently held federal Express Entry draw, which was 471. It simply means the stream gives an opportunity for even those with a low CRS score to obtain permanent residence in Canada.

Alberta Express Entry Stream Assessment Criteria

To be eligible to obtain provincial nomination under the stream, the Express Entry candidates must meet certain eligibility requirements. Though neither a job offer nor previous work experience in Alberta is necessary to become eligible for provincial nomination from Alberta, the province gives priority to those candidates who meet the following criteria:

  • A job offer from an Alberta employer
  • Previous work experience in Alberta
  • A degree obtained from a post-secondary education institution in Canada and a valid job offer
  • A parent, child or sibling already living in Alberta
