In the first Ontario Tech draw of 2021 held on February 16, the province invited 1186 immigration candidates to apply for provincial nomination. The invited candidates were those who had work experience in one of the six following targeted occupations:

  • Computer and information systems managers (NOC 0213)
  • Computer engineers (NOC 2147)
  • Database analysts and data administrators (NOC 2172)
  • Software engineers and designers (NOC 2173)
  • Computer programmer and interactive media developers (NOC 2174)
  • Web designers and developers (NOC 2175)

Those who have received invitations may submit the complete application within 45 days. If they obtain provincial nomination, they will have 600 additional CRS score points added to their total score. That would guarantee them an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the subsequent Express Entry draw.
This is the first Ontario Tech Pilot draw of 2021. The previous Human Capital Priorities draw had invited candidates with work experience in occupations related to sectors such as finance and health, among others. Last year, Ontario invited a total of 6716 candidates under the Human Capital Priorities stream. This was the largest proportion of all Express Entry-related PNP nominations issued by Ontario in 2020.

How to receive an invitation in Ontario Tech draw?

Ontario selects eligible candidates in Tech Immigration from the federal Express Entry pool. That means, to receive an invitation in an Ontario Tech draw, the candidates must have an active Express Entry profile. The Express Entry system of Canada manages applications for immigration under the three major federal economic immigration programs, which are: Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class. The candidates in the Express Entry pool are ranked on the basis of the CRS score, which is awarded out of 1200 based on human capital factors such as age, education, work experience, language proficiency etc.
Once selected, the candidates will be issued invitations to apply for provincial nomination. Upon receiving provincial nomination, they may apply for permanent residence in Canada. Upon receiving Canada PR, they may settle in Ontario and land in a suitable job.
