Prince Edward Island invites 111 candidates in December 19 draw

In the final Expression of Interest draw of 2019, Prince Edward Island invited 111 candidates to apply for a provincial nomination. In the draw held on December 19, a total of 100 invites went to Labour Impact and Express Entry stream candidates while the remaining 11 invites were issued to Business Impact candidates. The minimum score required for the Business Impact candidates was 140, which is 10 points more compared to the previous draw.

Prince Edward Island Expression of Interest
The Expression of Interest system under the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) was launched in 2018 and ever since, the province has been conducting monthly draws under the system. In the 12 draws held in 2019, Prince Edward Island issued invitations to a total of 1639 candidates. 1436 candidates among these were from the Labour Impact/Express Entry streams and the the remaining 193 candidates belonged to the Business Impact stream.

The Express Entry stream of PEI PNP selects eligible candidates for provincial nomination from the federal Express Entry pool. Those who are nominated by Prince Edward Island will have 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS) score points added to their total CRS score and it guarantee them an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the subsequent federal Express Entry draw. The Express Entry stream of PEI PNP has two pathways– one that requires a job offer and one that does not.
Prince Edward Island Labour Impact category
The Labour Impact category of PEI PNP has two streams under it–the Skilled Worker Stream and the Critical Worker stream. To be eligible under the Skilled worker stream, the candidate must have a full-time employment job offer from a Prince Edward Island employer and the occupation must be classified under National Occupational Classification (NOC) “0”, “A” or “B”. The candidate must have education qualification equal post-secondary level and the age must be between 21 and 55 years. Further, the candidate must have at least two years of work experience acquired within the past five years. The candidates must also demonstrate sufficient level of language proficiency and enough funds to settle in Prince Edward Island.

At the same time, the Critical Worker Stream aims to resolve the labour shortage in the province and targets foreign workers who are already in Prince Edward Island, with employment in critical in-demand occupations. To be eligible under this category, the candidate must have at least six months of work experience with the Prince Edward Island employer offering the employment. The candidate must have a valid Canadian work permit at the time of submitting the application and demonstrate the intention to settle in Prince Edward Island. They must also meet other basic eligibility requirements regarding age, language proficiency and education level.
