What is the Canadian Federal Skilled Worker Program and how could you be benefited from it?

Canadian Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is one of the most popular pathways for Canada immigration. It helps people with skills and experience needed in Canada obtain permanent residence in the country. Candidates under the Canadian Federal Skilled Worker Program will be selected through the Express Entry system and those with the highest CRS scores will be invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada.

Federal Skilled Worker Program requirements

Work Experience:

The candidate must have minimum one year of full-time work experience earned in the past 10 years in an O, A or B level occupation classified by the National Occupation classification.

Job offer:

The candidate must have a job offer from a Canadian employer or has enrolled in a PhD program in Canada.

Language proficiency:

The candidate must meet minimum English requirement of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7. They can earn additional points by the French language test, Test d’evaluation de francais.

Minimum scores to qualify:

In order to be eligible to apply under the Federal Skilled Worker Program, a candidate must score 67 points out of 100 in the federal skilled workers scoring system. The candidates are awarded scores on the basis of a number of factors including age, education level, language proficiency and work experience.

Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score:

As the Federal Skilled Worker Program is managed under the Express Entry system, your chances of being invited to apply for permanent residence depends on your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. The score is awarded out of 1200. The candidates who are nominated by a province receive 600 CRS points. The other factors based on which CRS points are awarded include work experience, education, language proficiency, education qualifications, dependents, job offer from a Canadian employer etc.

Federal Skilled Worker Program: Benefits

Once a candidate has obtained permanent residence visa through the Federal Skilled Worker Program, he or she can work anywhere in Canada. They do not require a work permit and they have full access to the Canadian job market. After three years, they can also apply for Canadian citizenship. As a permanent resident, he or she can also enjoy all the social benefits enjoyed by Canadian residents and citizens including subsidized healthcare, education, pensions etc.
