Alberta issues 262 NoIs to candidates with CRS score as low as 300

Alberta issues 262 NoIs

Alberta issued 262 Notifications of Interest (NoIs) to Express Entry candidates with Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores as low as 300 in the draw held on June 21. The candidates who are successful in obtaining provincial nomination from Alberta would receive 600 additional CRS score points that would guarantee them an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the subsequent Express Entry draw.
The minimum CRS score requirement of 300 points in the latest draw is lower than the lowest score drawn through the federal Express Entry system in 2019 so far. The lowest score in any Express Entry draw so far this year was 332 in the draw held on May 15 that exclusively targeted Federal Skilled Trades candidates. The lowest score in all-program draws this year was 438.
One of the biggest advantages of AINP is that it gives an opportunity for candidates with even low CRS scores to apply for permanent residence in Canada. But in order to be eligible for provincial nomination from Alberta, the candidate must be working in an occupation that supports “Alberta’s economic development and diversification priorities.” However, the province has not listed the occupations that are eligible.
Though a job offer is not a pre-requirement to be eligible for provincial nomination from Alberta, those with a job offer from an Alberta employer or previous work experience in the province are given priority. Other major factors that give weightage to candidates are:

  • A degree from a Canadian post-secondary institution and a valid job offer
  •  A parent, child or sibling already living in Alberta.

With the latest draw, the total number of invitations issued to Express Entry candidates by Alberta has touched 3816.
In order to apply for provincial nomination from Alberta, Express Entry candidates must first receive a Notification of Interest (NOI) from AINP. The AINP chooses candidates on the basis of information provided in their Express Entry profile. To receive an NoI, a candidate must:

  • Have an active Express Entry profile in the federal Express Entry pool
  • Have stated an interest to permanently settle in Alberta
  • Be working in an occupation that supports  the economic development and diversification of Alberta
  • Have a minimum CRS score of 300
