The Government of Alberta has announced a temporary transition period for its new Alberta Opportunity Stream List of Alberta Advanced Education Approved Post-Secondary Credentials. It means the international students accepted before October 1, 2018, into a study program that is not on the new list will still be considered for immigration. The new list that came into effect on July 10 will be applicable only for those students who have been admitted on or after October 1, 2018.
An applicant to the Alberta Opportunity Stream, who was accepted into a post-secondary program before October 1, 2018, must have an Alberta Advanced Education approved credential issued by an Alberta Advanced Education approved Alberta public and private post-secondary institution. He must also have, besides other requirements.
-a certificate or post-graduate certificate program (minimum one year in length);
-a diploma program (minimum two years in length); or
-an undergraduate bachelor’s degree, graduate-level degree or graduate level certificate or diploma program
The applicant must also be employed in an occupation related to his or her field of study in Alberta.

Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS)

The Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS) was introduced by the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) on June 14, 2018, replacing the Employer-Driven Stream and Strategic Recruitment Stream. The Alberta Opportunity Stream opens an opportunity to obtain Canadian permanent residence to foreign nationals with work experience in Alberta, and international students who have graduated from an approved Alberta post-secondary institution and are working in Alberta on a Post-Graduation Work Permit. Through the Alberta Opportunity Stream, AINP aims to attract international students with education qualifications and skills that meet the needs of Alberta’s labor market.
In order to be eligible, the candidates must meet eligibility requirements including residency status and work permit requirements, language proficiency, education qualification, income level and work experience in an occupation that is not part of the ineligible occupations list.
