Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) has received a marginal increase in the allocation of nominations from the Canada federal government. Alberta has received an allocation of 5600 nominations for the year 2018, compared to 5500 nominations last year.
The increase in nomination allocation is observed to be part of the federal government’s three-year immigration levels plan. As per this plan, managed increases for provincial nominee programs have been forecast upto a total allocation of nearly 68000 by 2020.
Alberta is planning to introduce major changes to its provincial nominee program. Though the changes had originally been planned for January 2nd, 2018, they had to be delayed owing to various reasons. Till the new changes come into effect, the old structure will be followed.
Alberta Opportunity Stream
As per the proposed changes, the Employer-driven Stream and Strategic Recruitment Stream will be replaced by a new Alberta Opportunity Stream. So AINP will accept applications through two streams– the new Alberta Opportunity Stream and the Self-employed Farmer Stream—alone.
A new Alberta Express Entry Stream will also be introduced through which, Alberta can nominate candidates can then apply through the Federal Canada Express Entry System.
In order to be eligible under Alberta Opportunity Stream, the candidate must have:
>Experience in an eligible occupation in Alberta
>Residency and Work Permit
>Minimum Canadian Language Benchmark 4
>Minimum educational requirement of Canadian school diploma or equivalent
>Minimum gross annual income based on family size
The applications of those who have already applied under AINP will be assessed only as per the eligibility criteria that were in effect when the application was received.
