Manitoba nominated record number of candidates for Canada PR

The province of Manitoba set a record in the number of immigration candidates nominated for permanent residence in Canada in 2018, revealed a new report from the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP). As per the report, Manitoba issued 5,207 nominations for Canada PR in 2018. Out of these, 5,119 nominations were issued to candidates in the Skilled Worker in Manitoba and Skilled Worker Overseas immigration streams. The remaining 88 nominations were issued to candidates in Manitoba’s Business Investor Stream.

Skilled Worker nominations for Canada PR

Among the total Skilled Worker nominations issued by Manitoba last year, 3399 nominations or 65 percent of the total nominations were issued to candidates belonging to the Skilled Worker in Manitoba stream.  number of nominations issued to Skilled Worker Overseas candidates was 1720 or 33 per cent of the total nominations issued.
Manitoba issued 535 nominations to Express Entry candidates in 2018. Manitoba launched its Express Entry-aligned pathway in 2018 as part of the MPNP renewal program. The pathway allows MPNP to choose Express Entry pool with experience in jobs listed in the In-Demand Occupations List of Manitoba for provincial nomination.
Of the 5,119 skilled worker candidates nominated last year, 79 per cent (4,101) had a job offer in Manitoba. This is 51.2 per cent more compared to 2017.
The first step in applying for provincial nomination from Manitoba as a skilled worker is submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) profile with the MPNP. Each profile is ranked on the basis of a score out of 1000, based on a number of factors such as education, work experience, connections to the province etc. The highest ranking candidates are issued Letters of Advice to Apply (LAAs) for provincial nomination. In 2018, Manitoba received 26,443 Expression of Interest profiles from skilled worker candidates and the province issued LAAs to 7,950 candidates.

Indians top the list

Among the total invitations to apply for provincial nomination issued in 2018, 1780 nominations or 34.2 per cent of the total nominations were issued to Indian candidates. Indians were followed by the Chinese and the Filipinos.
In terms of occupation, candidates with experience in the Sales and Service sector received the highest number of applications. Candidates with experience in business, finance and administration occupations followed.’
