Canadian Jobs have increased significantly this year and Quebec tops the list!

Job opportunities in Canada marked a remarkable rise in the first quarter of 2018, according to data released by Statistics Canada. There were 462,000 job vacancies across Canada in the first quarter of 2018. The data also indicates that job opportunities in Canada rose across most of the provinces and industrial sectors during this period, compared to the first quarter of 2017.

Job opportunities in Canada: Provinces with highest rise percentage

Among the provinces, Quebec and British Columbia witsenessed biggest rise in job opportunities. Quebec had a 37% jump in job vacancies, the largest year-over-year increase for the three-month period. Quebec is witnessing a year-over-year increase in the number of job vacancies for the seventh consecutive year. Manufacturing, accommodation and food services are the industrial sectors that witnessed the highest increase in job opportunities in Quebec. Montreal, with a rise of more than 8,700 job opportunities, became the economic region in Quebec to post the greatest increase in job opportunities. The unemployment rate of Quebec has also dropped from 6.2 per cent in the first quarter of 2017 to 5.5 per cent in the first quarter of 2018.

Quebec expects that by 2024, there will be more than a million job vacancies to fill in Quebec. The province will be admitting more immigrants in order to meet the labour shortage. As part of this move, Quebec is introducing certain important changes to its immigration system, which will be unveiled in the month of August.
The other major provinces that recorded a rise in job opportunities in Canada are British Columbia, Ontario, Alberta and Manitoba. The percentage of rise in job opportunities in British Columbia is just one point below Quebec, 36%. There were 24,000 more jobs in the first quarter of 2018 in British Columbia. The number of job vacancies in Ontario increased by 9800 during this period. Alberta had an increase of 7500 job opportunities, which means 18.5 per cent year-over-year increase. Manitoba posted an increase of 2,800 job vacancies, which means 26.4 per cent rise compared to the first quarter of 2017.
