Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has warned against Canada immigration scams happening on social media. According to the IRCC, a number of fake pages claimed to be that of immigration consultants who would help clients to immigrate to Canada have popped up on Facebook. IRCC adds that most of these websites are in Arabic and illegally use the official marks and images of the Government of Canada.
Incidents of fake consultants directly approaching the immigration aspirants and cheating thousands of dollars have also been reported from Turkey and Lebanon.
In the wake of these developments, IRCC has issued a reminder regarding such Facebook pages:
-IRCC never uses social media to provide resettlement services
-To resettle in Canada as a refugee, you must be referred through the United Nations Refugee Agency, a designated referral organization or a private sponsorship group.
-IRCC will never request documents or payments through social media platforms such as Facebook or WhatsApp.
-IRCC will never contact individuals by telephone or other means to offer resettlement services or immigration to Canada.
-If you choose to hire an immigration consultant to represent you, make sure they are authorized.
How to know if a Canada immigration consultant is authentic?
-Before accepting the services of an immigration consultant, check whether they are registered with the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC). Check the list of ICCRC’s registered consultants
-Do a thorough research on them on the internet. Read the testimonials and go through the information provided on their website
– Ask the consultant about their charges and the services they offer. Communicate everything through e-mail
-Ask the past clients of the consultant regarding their service
-Check if they are straight-forward in their communication. Also check if they are updating you in every step of the application process for immigration.
-Have a basic understanding regarding the Canada immigration process, so that they can’t cheat you!
