The year 2018 was an eventful one as far as Canada Express Entry is concerned. Express Entry set a new record by issuing 89,800 invitations to apply(ITAs) for Canadian permanent residence–the highest number of ITAs issued in any single year ever since Express Entry came into existence in January 2015. It broke the year 2017’s record of 86,023 Invitations to Apply (ITAs). With Canada having set a higher admission target for the coming year, it is almost certain that the Express Entry 2019 will break the current year’s record as well.
Express Entry 2019: More draws, bigger draw sizes
As the admission target for 2019 is bigger compared to that of 2018, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will have to conduct more Express Entry draws more frequently. The current interval between two draws is likely to be reduced from two weeks, given target for 2019. In most of the draws held in 2018, IRCC maintained a pattern where the draw sizes were gradually increased by 250 or 500 ITAs every two to three months. The draw size, which was only 2750 in the beginning of the year, gradually reached the size of 3900 and remained almost the same between September 5 and December 19.
As an indication of what to expect in 2019, the last draw of 2018 took place on December 19 only in a gap of one week after the previous draw on December 12. It also resulted in Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score coming down from 445 to 439, the lowest minimum score of 2018. It is highly likely that IRCC will conduct draws with gaps less than two weeks on a more regular basis in 2019 and 2020.
Express Entry 2019: Provincial Nominee Programs
Canada plans to welcome a total of 61000 newcomers through Provincial Nominee Programs in 2019. In 2018, the target was 61000, or 6000 less than 2019’s target. The target for 2020 is 67800 and for 2021 is 71300.
