In the latest draw of Ontario Skilled Trades Stream held on March 21, a total of 361 Express Entry candidates were invited to apply for provincial nomination. Ontario issued the invitations to those who submitted their Express Entry profile between March 21, 2018, and March 21, 2019. With the latest draw, the total number of invitations issued by Ontario under Skilled Trades Stream so far this year has reached 732.
Ontario Skilled Trades Stream
Under the Ontario Skilled Trades Stream, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) searches the Express Entry pool for Federal Skilled Worker Class and Canadian Experience Class candidates currently living in the province. In order to be eligible under the stream, the candidate must have full-time work experience of minimum one year or equivalent part-time experience. The work experience must be a skilled trade listed in Minor Group 633 or Major Group 72, 73, or 82 under Canada’s National Occupational Classification (NOC).
Though the candidates are not required to have a job offer to apply under the Ontario Skilled Trades Stream, they must meet all the federal and provincial requirements specified by the OINP.
Minimum Requirements
- A valid profile in the federal Express Entry pool
- Be eligible for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
- Must have indicated interest to immigrate either to Ontario or “All Provinces and Territories in the Express Entry profile
- Must have received a Notification of Interest from Ontario through the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Express Entry online account
The candidates who are invited under the Ontario Skilled Trades Stream can apply for a provincial nomination. Those who obtain provincial nomination would receive 600 additional Comprehensive Raking System(CRS) score points that would guarantee them an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the subsequent Express Entry draw.
