Expression of Interest system comes into effect for Saskatchewan

Canada PR applications

Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) introduced Expression of Interest system for its International Skilled Worker – Saskatchewan Express Entry and Occupations In-Demand sub-categories on July 16. It means Saskatchewan is no longer accepting applications on a first-come, first-served basis for its International Skilled Worker – Saskatchewan Express Entry sub-category.
Now on, in order to apply under the International Skilled Worker – Saskatchewan Express Entry sub-category, candidates will have to create an Expression of Interest (EOI) profile using Saskatchewan’s online application system “OASIS”. Candidates will be selected on the basis of eligibility criteria and regular draws will be conducted from a pool of eligible candidates. Those who receive invitation to apply can submit an application for provincial nomination with all the required documents.

International Skilled Worker – Saskatchewan Express Entry sub-category

The International Skilled Worker – Saskatchewan Express Entry sub-category is for candidates who want to live and work in Saskatchewan. In order to apply, the candidate must have entered the Express Entry pool of the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Other eligibility criteria to apply under International Skilled Worker – Saskatchewan Express Entry sub-category
– A minimum score of 60 points out of 100 on the point assessment grid of SINP
– Required level of language proficiency (valid test results from a designated testing agency)
-Post secondary-level education comparable to the Canadian education system of at least one year duration
-Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) done from a designated organization for degrees or diplomas obtained outside Canada
– Minimum one of the following qualifications:
>One year work experience in the past 10 years in a skilled profession (non-trades)
>Two year work experience in a skilled trade in the past five years
> Twelve months work experience in Canada in the past three years (trades and non-trades)
-Work experience in a high skilled occupation in the National Occupational Classification (NOC) Matrix level “A”, “B” or “0” that’s included on the SINP In-Demand Occupation List
-Proof of Professional Status or Licensure if required for your occupation
-Proof of settlement funds and a settlement plan

Professional license

For regulated occupations or those with professional certification standards in Canada and/or Saskatchewan, the candidate will have to show proof of Professional Status or Licensure. The candidate can check if his occupation needs a proof for professional status or licensure on the latest in-demand occupation list of Saskatchewan. The list will also provide information regarding the particular organization or agency from where the candidate must obtain licensure for his occupation.
Candidates must take care to provide a valid email id because SINP communicates with the candidate via email. If a candidate is invited to apply for provincial nomination, he can use the same log-in information he created for his EOI to complete the application. The information that he has provided in the EOI must be current and accurate. The candidate can update the changes, if needed, on his profile. If SINP authorities find out that the candidate has provided wrong information and has left out important details, his application will be rejected.
The major drawback of the first-come, first-served model that was replaced by the Expression of Interest (EOI) system was that it denied the opportunity to the candidates who were qualified but failed to submit the application on time. But the new system gives weightage to the candidate’s human capital, rather than how quickly he was able to apply. SINP expects that the EoI system will help them better target the candidates who are most likely to succeed in Saskatchewan’s labor market.
