Australia: Occupation Ceilings for General Skilled Migration Released

The Australian Department of Immigration has released the occupation ceilings of various occupations under the General Skilled Migration program.

An occupation ceiling is the maximum number of invitations that will be issued to applicants for:

  • Skilled Independent Visa
  • Skilled Regional Sponsored Visa
  • Skilled or Business State or Territory Sponsored Visa

Occupation ceilings were raised for the pro rata occupations listed below:

  • Software and Applications Programmers: Raised by 540 places to 6202
  • ICT Business and Systems Analysts: Raised by 92 places to 1574
  • Industrial, Mechanical and Production Engineers: Raised by 639 places to 2178
  • Accountants: Raised by 2285 places to 4785

The occupational ceilings were reduced for:

  • Computer Network Professionals: Brought down by 108 places to 1318
  • Auditors, Company Secretaries and Corporate Treasurers: Brought down by 86 places to 1327

Occupation ceilings for the following occupations remain unchanged:

  • Electronics Engineers: 1000
  • Other Engineering Professionals: 1000
