Alberta Express Entry stream

Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) introduced the Alberta Express Entry stream in June 2018 with an aim to nominate eligible candidates from the federal Express Entry pool for permanent residence in Canada. The Alberta Express Entry stream targets candidates with strong ties to the province of Alberta. Priority is also given to those candidates who can support the economic development and diversification priorities of the Alberta provincial government.

The candidates who receive provincial nomination under the Alberta Express Entry stream will acquire 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score points, which effectively guarantee them an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence in Canada in a subsequent Express Entry draw.

In order to apply for provincial nomination under the Alberta Express Entry stream, the candidates must first receive a Notification of Interest (NoI) letter from AINP. Alberta selects eligible candidates from the federal Express Entry pool and sends them Notifications of Interest (NoIs) directly.

To be eligible to receive a Notification of Interest (NoI), a candidate must have:

  • An active Express Entry profile
  • Intention to permanently reside in Alberta
  • Work experience in an occupation that supports the economic development and diversification priorities of Alberta
  • Minimum CRS score of 300

The following adaptability factors also increase an Alberta Express Entry candidate’s chances of receiving an NoI:

  • A job offer from an Alberta employer or work experience in the province
  • Having graduated from an Alberta post-secondary institution with a valid job offer from an Alberta employer
  • Having a parent, child, or sibling who is a permanent resident/Canadian citizen living in Alberta

A candidate is less likely to receive an NoI from AINP if:

  • The Express Entry profile of the candidate will be expiring within three months after the draw
  • The candidate’s occupation is featured on the Alberta Opportunity Stream Ineligible Occupations list
  • The candidate’s occupation has a high volume of submissions across all AINP streams.
Language Proficiency

The candidates must demonstrate a certain level of language proficiency in English or French to qualify under the Alberta Express Entry stream. A Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 test score is required for Federal Skilled Worker and Canadian Experience Class candidates. A CLB 4 test score is required for Federal Skilled Trades candidates.
