Saskatchewan Experience category

The Saskatchewan Experience category of Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) allows foreign workers who currently work and reside in the province to apply for permanent residence in Canada. In order to apply for provincial nomination from Saskatchewan under this category, the candidate must have a valid work permit and a genuine intention to economically establish themselves in Saskatchewan. The Saskatchewan Experience Category has five subcategories, which are:

  • Existing Work Permit
  • Health Professionals
  • Hospitality Sector Project
  • Long Haul Truck Driver Project
  • Students

Existing Work Permit

Skilled workers who have been working in Saskatchewan with a valid work permit can apply for provincial nomination under this subcategory. The candidate must have been working in the province for at least six months and have received a permanent job offer for that position. It is also mandatory for the job offer to be approved by the SINP before the application is submitted.

  • In order to get the approval for the job offer, the employer must register on the SINP Employer website. If the SINP approves the position for which the job is offered, the employer will receive a Job Approval Letter, a copy of which has to be submitted along with the candidate’s application to the SINP.

Eligibility requirements

In order to be eligible under the Existing Work Permit subcategory of Saskatchewan, the candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • The candidate must have a valid work permit issued by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)
  • The candidate must have received a permanent, full-time job offer from a Saskatchewan employer. The offer must be for an occupation classified under National Occupation Classification (NOC) level 0, A, or B or in a designated trade.
  • The candidate must have worked for the employer who have issued the permanent job offer and in the position for which the job offer has been issued, for at least six months, with a valid work permit
  • The candidate must demonstrate minimum level of language proficiency equal to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 4 if the job offer is being issued for an occupation classified under NOC C (a designated trade). As a proof, the candidate can submit the results of a language test being conducted by a designated testing agency taken within two years before the date of submitting the application.
  • The candidate must have a valid SINP job approval letter
  • If the occupation is regulated in the province and requires a mandatory certification or licensure, the candidate must also submit proof of eligibility for Saskatchewan licensure.

Health professionals

The candidates who have been working in the province as a physician, nurse or other health professional can apply for permanent residence in Saskatchewan under this subcategory. To be eligible, the candidate must have been working full-time on a temporary work permit for a period of at least six months. Further, the candidate must have received a job offer for that position, which must have also been approved by the SINP.

SINP Approval

The position offered to the candidates under the Health Professionals subcategory of Saskatchewan Experience category must already have been approved by the SINP before the candidate submits the application. Otherwise, the application will instantly be rejected. In order to obtain SINP approval for a particular job position, the employer must register on the SINP Employer website. If the position is approved, the employer will receive a Job Approval Letter. The copy of this letter has to be submitted along with the candidate’s application to the SINP.

Minimum requirements for Physicians

  • A valid work permit
  • Must have been practicing in Saskatchewan for at least six months
  • Must have a permanent, full-time job offer
  • Must have a valid SINP Job Approval Letter
  • Must have a letter of support from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan(CoPSS) and a a letter from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, if applicable.

Nurses: Minimum requirements

To be eligible to apply for provincial nomination, the applicants must:

  • Have a valid work permit
  • Have been practicing in Saskatchewan as a nurse for at least six months
  • Have a permanent, full-time job offer issued by a Saskatchewan Regional Health Authority, the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency, or another publicly-funded health employer
  • Have a valid SINP Job Approval Letter

Requirements for other health professionals

The candidate must:

  • Have completed a post-secondary training course related to their occupation, with a duration of at least one year
  • Have a permanent, full-time job offer from a Saskatchewan employer. The offered position must be in a health occupation classified under National Occupation Classification (NOC) level 0, A, B, or C
  • Have worked for the employer who offers the job for at least six months in the same position
  • For an NOC C occupation, the candidate must have minimum language proficiency level equal to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 4. This has to be demonstrated with the results of a language test taken by a designated testing agency.
  • The candidate must have appeared for the test within two years before the submission of application
  • Have a valid SINP Job Approval Letter
  • If the job offered is regulated in Saskatchewan, the candidate must also submit proof of eligibility for Saskatchewan licensure.

 Hospitality Sector Project

Temporary foreign workers who have been working in Saskatchewan in a hospitality-related occupation for an SINP-approved employer can apply for provincial nomination under the Project. In order to be eligible, the candidate must have been working with a valid work permit for at least six months in one of the following occupations:

  • Food/Beverage Server (NOC 6453),
  • Food Counter Attendant/Kitchen Helper (NOC 6641), or
  • Housekeeping/Cleaning Staff (NOC 6661).

Further, the candidate must have a permanent, full-time job offer from a Saskatchewan employer. The job offer must have received prior approval from SINP. In order to obtain the approval, the employer who offers the job must first register on the SINP Employer website. If the job is approved by the SINP, the candidate will receive a Job Approval Letter, a copy of which has to be attached to the application. Further, the candidate must have minimum high school level education and language proficiency equal to CLB 4.

Long Haul Truck Driver Project

Under this subcategory, trucking firms can bring long-haul truck drivers to Saskatchewan. The candidate requires minimum a high school diploma/equivalent or on-the-job training. Truckers who have been working in Saskatchewan on a temporary work permit for at least six months, with a full-time permanent job offer from a trucking firm can apply under the project.

Students

Recent graduates from a recognized post-secondary educational institution in Canada who have received a permanent, full-time job offer from a Saskatchewan employer can apply under this subcategory. The job offer must have received prior approval from SINP for the application to be acceptable.
In order to receive SINP approval for a job offer, the employer must register on the SINP Employer website. If the job offer is approved, the employer will receive a Job Approval Letter, a copy of which has to be attached to the candidate’s application for provincial nomination.

Minimum requirements for graduates from Saskatchewan institutions:

  • Have graduated with a certificate, diploma or  degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Saskatchewan. The course must be full-time with a duration of at least one academic year(eight months)
  • The candidate must have minimum level of language proficiency equal to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 4
    Minimum six months of paid work experience in Saskatchewan
  • A valid post-graduation work permit from IRCC
  • Permanent, full-time job offer from a Saskatchewan employer in an occupation or trade classified under NOC level 0, A, or B. Or the job offer must be requiring post-secondary level education
  • A valid SINP Job Approval Letter.

Requirements for those graduated from outside Saskatchewan

  • Have graduated from a Canadian post-secondary institution that has resulted in a certificate, diploma or degree. The course must be full-time and have a minimum duration of at least one year.
  • Language proficiency level equal to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 4, if the job offer is in a NOC level C occupation
  • Minimum six months of paid work experience in Saskatchewan acquired with a valid post-graduate work permit
  • Have a permanent, full-time job offer from a Saskatchewan employer in an NOC level 0, A or B occupation, OR a designated trade, OR a job offer requiring a post-secondary education. The position offered must be related to their field of study.
  • A valid SINP Job Approval Letter.
