ITAs issued to Express Entry candidates with provincial nomination on the rise

Canada PR applications

Government of Canada has revealed that the current year witnessed an unprecedented rise in the number of invitations to apply(ITAs) for permanent residence in Canada issued to Express Entry candidates with a provincial nomination. The Express Entry candidates who receive provincial nomination are awarded 600 additional CRS points, which guarantee them an ITA in the subsequent Express Entry Draw. The growing number of candidates with the provincial nomination and the additional 600 CRS points they earn is also cited as the for the rise in minimum CRS score requirements in the Express Entry draws held in 2018, which have been hovering between 440 and 456. All this prove that obtaining a provincial nomination is the best way to get selected in an Express Entry draw if you have CRS score below 440.

Provincial nomination and Express Entry

Every Provincial Nominee Program in Canada has at least one immigration stream aligned with the federal Express Entry. The rising number of invitations issued to provincial nominees shows the increasing relevance of PNPs in Canada’s immigration strategy. As per the new multi-year immigration levels plan of Canada, 61000 newcomers will be admitted to the country through PNPs. This is 6000 more than the target of 55,000 allocated for the current year. In 2021, the number of allocations will be 71,300, a 30 percent rise compared to the current year.

PNPs’ influence on immigrant settlement patterns

Provincial Nominee Programs has helped Canada distribute the benefits of immigration more evenly across the country. Earlier, most of the newcomers preferred to settle in large cities. Provincial nominee programs have brought about a change to this situation. According to IRCC, 34 percent of the economic immigrants who arrived in Canada in 2017 settled outside Ontario, British Columbia, and Quebec, where Canada’s major cities–Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal–are located. This was merely 10 percent in 1997. Now, provinces like Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Manitoba and Saskatchewan also have active Express Entry streams that attract qualified immigrants to these provinces.
