New Foundland
Canada immigration through Express Entry
Last year was a busy one for the Express Entry system with the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada(IRCC) issuing a total of 85300 Invitations to Apply for Canada immigration. The last Express Entry draw of 2019 saw 3200 candidates receiving ITAs to apply for permanent residence in Canada. With Canada government having set ambitious targets with regard to Express Entry for 2020, it is expected that the year too will exceed expectations in terms of the number of ITAs issued.
Provincial Nominee Programs
As per Immigration Levels Plan for 2019-2021, Canada is planning to admit 67,800 immigrants through the Provincial Nominee Programs. It means an increase of 11 percent compared to 2019.
For 2020, Ontario has asked to double the number of economic immigrants they can admit to the province under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program. Other provinces are also expected to ask for bigger allocations in 2020.
Regional immigration
In the past few years, Canada has launched programs exclusively to promote regional migration. The Atlantic Immigration Pilot launched in 2017 has helped the Atlantic provinces of Canada to welcome more than 4000 more immigrants so far. It is expected that the Pilot Program would soon be made a permanent one. The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot too is expected to become more active in 2020 with 11 designated communities having started to recruit newcomers through the Pilot Program.
The launching of Municipal Nominee Program was one of the election promises of the Liberal party. Though not many details are available about the program, it is expected that the Program would become operational soon.
