27332 CEC candidates invited in the largest ever Express Entry draw

Express entry 176

In the largest draw in the history of Canada Express Entry system held on February 13, Canada invited a whopping 27332 Canadian Experience Class(CEC) candidates to apply for permanent residence. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score required for candidates was 75— which is also the lowest in the history of Express Entry.
The latest Express Entry draw is five times larger than the largest Express Entry draws held till date. Earlier, Canada had invited 5000 candidates in four straight Express Entry draws held between November 18 and December 23 last year, which were the largest. Before the latest draw, the lowest CRS cut-off score was 199 points for the draw held on May 16, 2017 that exclusively targeted Federal Skilled Trades Program candidates.

In the previous draw held on February 10, Canada invited 654 Provincial Nominee Program(PNP) candidates to apply for permanent residence. So, in a week, Canada has invited a total of 27986 candidates to apply for permanent residence through Express Entry.
A tie-break rule was applied in the February 13 draw as in the previous draws. The time-stamp given was September 12, 2020 at 15:31 UTC. It means the draw prioritized those candidates who had submitted their Express Entry profiles before the said date and time.
Today’s draw of unprecedented quantity proves once again that Canada is committed to achieve its immigration target for the year, which is set at 401000. Out of this, 108500 newcomers will be admitted to the country through Express Entry. For 2022, the Express Entry target is set at 110500 and for the 2023, the target is 113750. In short, the largest share of immigrant allocations are given to the federal economic immigration programs managed under the Express Entry. It means that Express Entry will be the main source of new immigrants to the country in the next three years.

Another probable reason for the high number of ITAs issued can be that the IRCC is aiming to invite more immigrants in the beginning of the year so that their landings can be successfully completed later in 2021. That would help IRCC to achieve its immigration levels target amidst coronavirus disruptions. Canada is also planning to welcome global talents, especially those residing outside Canada to support the post-pandemic recovery of the country.
