Alberta Express Entry Stream draw invites candidates with minimum CRS score of 300

Alberta-Express-Entry

In the two latest Alberta Express Entry Stream draws, the province has invited candidates with Comprehensive Ranking System score as low as 300. In the first of these draws held on January 22, 2020, Alberta invited 201 candidates with a minimum CRS score of 350 to apply for provincial nomination. In the second Alberta Express Entry draw which was held after just one week on January 29, the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) invited 150 candidates with CRS score as low as 300.

Alberta Express Entry Stream
Through the Alberta Express Entry Stream, the province selects eligible candidates from the federal Express Entry pool to apply for provincial nomination. The federal Express Entry system manages Canada immigration applications through the three federal economic immigration programs, which are Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program and Canadian Experience Class. The candidates who receive provincial nomination from Alberta will have 600 additional CRS score points added to their total CRS score. It guarantees them an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the subsequent federal Express Entry draw.
One of the major advantages for Express Entry candidates under the Stream is that even those with a low CRS score get a chance to apply for permanent residence. Take the instance of the latest federal Express Entry draw held on February 5, where the minimum CRS score required to qualify was 472. But Alberta considered candidates with CRS score as low as 300 in its latest Express Entry Stream draw.
Alberta Express Entry Stream: Eligibility requirements
To be eligible to apply for provincial nomination under the Alberta Express Entry Stream, the candidate must have work experience in an occupation that supports the economic development and diversification priorities of Alberta. However, Alberta does not have a list of eligible occupations. Though a job offer is not a mandatory requirement, priority is given to those who meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • A job offer or work experience or both in Alberta
  • A Canadian degree and a valid job offer
  • A close family member residing in the province

With the latest two draws, the total number of candidates invited through the Alberta Stream in January alone has touched 501.
