British Columbia needs more healthcare workers

British Columbia needs more healthcare workers

The aging population of British Columbia needs more healthcare workers and updating the immigration policies of the province would help to overcome the crisis, according to healthcare experts in Canada. Susan Fox, a healthcare leader, in her column in Times says that more number of Healthcare Attendants (HCAs) are needed to provide quality healthcare to the aging population of British Columbia. According to her, updating the immigration policy of British Columbia would help to bring more qualified healthcare attendants to the province. Senior care will be the fastest-growing sector in the economy of British Columbia in the next five years. Around 17000 new job openings will be there in this sector during this period.

It is predicted that one in four people in British Columbia will be above the age of 65 by 2030. Besides, people here are choosing to have fewer kids. This demographic condition will lead to a situation where there will be fewer workers to meet the labour market demands of the province and fewer people to take care of aging citizens.
The experts are calling British Columbia to update immigration policies to meet the growing demand for healthcare attendants. The Conference Board of Canada has pointed out the need for Canada to use immigration to meet the labour demands. The Advisory Council on Economic Growth has also demanded to increase the immigration numbers to meet the growing demand for skilled labour.
More number of people will be retiring from the labour force in the near future, which will worsen the problem. If their vacancies are not filled on time, the workload of the remaining workers will also increase. In short, the need of the hour is the federal and provincial governments working together to update immigration policy to meet the increasing demand for senior care professionals. The government must also invest in immigration programs that facilitate HCA post-secondary training, speed up existing credential recognition and support immigrant integration.
If the British Columbia government takes the steps to bring more foreign healthcare workers for senior care, which is imminent, it will prove beneficial for Canada immigration aspirants who have the required qualifications and training.
Healthcare professionals will continue to have huge demand in Canada. If you are a healthcare worker who wishes to migrate to Canada, fill our free eligibility assessment form to know your eligibility.
