Australian Migration Overview

SC 489 – Skilled Regional Sponsored/Eligible Relative Sponsored Visa: –

Present 489 visa is being replaced with the new category of regional visa (subclass 491) for skilled migration to Australia. This Australia visa is capped at 14,000 places per year. Eligible candidates must be below 45 years and can have a state government nomination, or be sponsored by a resident family member.

Below listed are the basic requirements to migrate to Australia:

  • Confirmation of Funds
  • Skillset & Qualification Assessment
  • Health Insurance
  • No Criminal Record Check
  • Proficiency in Language
  • At times you might also need to open a bank account before you migrate to Australia. (Depends on the Visa).

Types of Visa with Which You Can Migrate to Australia: –

Migrating to a foreign country requires a visa and Australia has three types of visa from which you can choose from. (Visa will be granted provided you meet all the requirements to migrate to Australia.)

Temporary Visa: –

A Temporary Visa is a type of visa which is granted to an individual who comes over to Australia for holidays, short period employment opportunities offered by an Australian employer. Normally, a temporary visa would be valid for up to 3 months and staying beyond that is considered illegal.

Skilled Immigration Visa: –

Migrating to Australia through a skilled immigration visa is a two-step procedure.

  • You must submit an online application for skilled immigration visa expressing interest.
  • You and your application are then assessed and awarded points based on your age, skillset, qualification etc., and then granted a visa if you qualify.

Remember that you will be assessed under the Australia Immigration Points Calculator and you must score a minimum of at least 60 points to migrate to Australia. Listed below are the skilled migration subclasses:

  • Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189)
  • Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)
  • Skilled Nominated or Sponsored Visa (Subclass 489)
  • Skilled Regional Visa (Subclass 887)

Australian PR Visa: –

Australian Permanent Residency Visa allows the visa holder to enter and leave Australia without any restrictions for a period of 5 years. Australian Government offers various programs to the selected candidates.

SC 189 Skilled Independent Visa: –

Candidates are selected based on the skills that are required in Australia and also by assessing the applicant’s points.

SC 190 Skilled State/Territory Nominated Visa: –

To obtain an SC 190 Skilled Australian PR visa, the applicant must be selected by an Australian Territory, state or government agency after submitting his/her expression of interest.

SC 489 – Skilled Regional Sponsored/Eligible Relative Sponsored Visa: –

This visa allows the candidates nominated by Australian State government agency and those who are sponsored by an eligible relative living in a designated area to live & work in the designated regions parts of Australia for a period of 4 years which is usually the maximum.

On obtaining an Australian PR Visa, the candidate gets to enjoy a lot of benefits. He/she gets the liberty to live, work, travel between Australia & New Zealand and most importantly the candidate can apply for Australian Citizenship too.
